Mens Wetsuits

There are any numerous reasons why a mens wetsuit is required, such as protection from the cold,
floatation properties and other various reasons for wearing a wetsuit.
Mens wetsuits are not just for scuba diving or surfing in winter. There are a huge variety of mens wetsuits
available today for any water sport activity.
The wetsuit works by the neoprene material that insulates the body's heat, by trapping a thin layer of water around
the wearer's body, this layer of water is then warmed up. If you are going to be underwater for a long time or in
very chilly water, then a thicker wetsuit is ideal. Today you can even get specialty mens wetsuits that are lined
with copper or titanium materials. These wetsuits help reflect your bodies warmth back to you.
If the mens wetsuit is not well fitting then the
water will circulate too much around the body and valuable body heat will be lost. In order to achieve the correct
fit the wetsuit should be firm, but not too tight as to restrict breathing.
Some older style mens wetsuits had zippers and fasteners in some very hard to reach places, like down your back.
Some newer wetsuits are comprised of stretchier neoprene/nylon materials that can stretch, so that they can be put
on through the neck hole!
Wetsuits can vary in thickness; some have a thicker torso area and thinner limb and legging material. This allows
more freedom of movement and protection of your main core body heat. Most wetsuits are made of 1.5 to 10 mm of
neoprene. The thicker wetsuits like about 5mm and above are generally used for scuba diving. For swimming, body
boarding and surfing, depending on the weather conditions a mens wetsuit of 1.5 to 3 mm might do the
trick.
Some scuba divers, free divers and spearfishermen wear a thicker closed-cell neoprene
which is needed for very cold water.
Wetsuits are not just used to protect one from the cold either as they are also good for protection against some
marine life, such as jelly fish. A jelly fish sting is excruciatingly painful and a full length wetsuit offers good
protection.
In the surf there are other hazards as well that a wetsuit can minimize, such as scrapes from coral. Raking body
parts against the sharp coral, which can lead to infections, is another danger.
Wetsuits also offer help if buoyancy in the water. This is great if you are a poor swimmer or are tired from the
rough surf. Of course you should never get out of your safety zone in the water, but a wetsuit is extra
protection.
There are a number of different mens wetsuits and designs, full length ones, shorty wetsuit - three quarter
wetsuits, farmer john types and jackets. Combine the styles with a variety of functions, colours and brands, the
list is endless. Snorkelling, open water swimming, kayaking, body boarding, water skiing or surfing, no matter what
water sport you do, a good quality mens wetsuit is worth choosing!
