Shorty Wetsuit

Shorty Wetsuit - One main purpose of the wetsuit is to provide the wearer protection from chilly
waters and the wind. But, water sports like surfing, triathlons, water skiing, windsurfing and open water swimming
can demand a fair range of movement; this is where a short length wetsuit is ideal.
The shorty as it can be nicknamed is easily identified by its short sleeves and leggings. The shorty
wetsuit comes in numerous brands, colours and designs.
These shorter wetsuits are also generally designed for warmer water, and are therefore typically thinner, around
2mm to 3mm. There is little point in wearing a 6 or 7 mm wetsuit meant for warmer waters as it can get too hot and
movement is restricted.
Scuba divers can also wear short wetsuits, however they are only recommended in tropical waters
or brief shallow dives. Surfers and body boarders can use them more widely, and a kayaker can wear them for summer
use in most temperate climates.
Wetsuits are manufactured from neoprene, or a similar combination fabric like a neoprene/Lycra
combination. The wetsuit works by trapping a layer of water between the body and the wetsuit. That turns it into an
extra layer of insulation, since the trapped water is warmed up by the body.
The shorty wetsuit also offers protection from sea hazards, although not protecting the lower
limbs and arms. Surfers, snorkelers, and divers alike have problems with jellyfish stings and accidents with coral.
A kids wetsuit is great in this design and can also help against cuts, scratches
and stings on the main body, as well as a little bit of protection from a collision with other surfers or
swimmers.
Wetsuit material is also very buoyant, as it is basically a honeycomb substance with
micro-bubbles trapped in it. It can be very useful for swimmers and surfers who might need help in open water
staying afloat. While it won't stop a swimmer from diving underwater completely, it does make staying afloat
easier. That can mean a lot to someone that spends hours in the water, or is in rough oceans.
Wetsuits need a snug fit to be able to work properly, and that usually makes them harder to get
on and off. A shorter length wetsuit also makes putting them on and off easier as well and much quicker. That is
one of the short wetsuit's, big pluses. A wetsuit can also help protect the back and upper limbs from sunburn.
While the shorty wetsuit is not meant for serious cold water duty water activities like scuba
diving, or even using one in mild water for a long time, it is a great versatile wetsuit for summer or warmer
climates.
Para-sailing, surfers, open water swimmers, snorkelers, kayakers, body boarders and windsurfers
can all appreciate the value of the shorty wetsuit. With more freedom of movement, easier fitting and quick to put
on, the shorty wetsuit can be a perfect fit for all water adventures.
